I do overglaze painting.
This piece started with a white glazed vase. I painted my cat ,
Boskie as well as a turquoise band at the top and bottom of the
vase with china paints that were kiln fired to 1480 F . I then
covered the top and bottom band with the
Jurgen Crystal Clear
lacquer paint and after it dried, I covered it with
Violet luster and fired that to 1380 F . This allowed the
previous turquoise underpainting to show through the now violet
crystal patterns. The white background was also covered with the
clear crystal paint and then with Mother of Pearl luster. It is
difficult to see in the picture but it has a subtle quartz
crystal visual texture to it.. The piece was then kiln fired one
more time to add the gold. I LOVE this stuff!!! |

Honorable Mention
By Deb Dayhoff of Chantilly, VA

The
attached photo is a stained glass window for Grace
Fellowship Church in Chantilly, VA.? The eliptical window
measusres 5' at the bottom and the rectangular piece is 4' x 8'.
I used the lacquer based
colors with the
liquid lead to produce the stained glass.? The grapes in
the top window carry a theme in our church which is derived from
John 15, "I am the Vine and you are the branches."? The bottom
piece represents our mission statement, with the Holy Trinity
represented in the 3 rings at the top, the cross and the dove.?
The design is original and the completion of the project was a
collaborative effort from members of our church.? What a
fantastic product you provide to give such stunning results.?
When the sun hits this on Sunday mornings, the color is
breath-taking. |

Best Metallic Item
by Holly Watkins

Here's my entry for your contest called Tiffanyesque. I
used some metallic gold in the leaves & some metallic
silver in the water and clouds. Clouds are a mix of frost
& metallic silver...always trying something new! The
"frame" is an old metal window.

I do overglaze on
porcelain .. I start with a piece of porcelain that has been
clear glazed, I then apply the clear Crystal lacquer to it.. and
after it is dry , I wipe on lusters and then kiln fire them to
approximately 1380 F ,,,,The lacquer burns away and leaves the
luster in the crystal patterns... I also paint the piece first
with china paint, kiln fire to 1480 F , then apply the crystal
lacquer and after it is dry , I apply a dark luster and fire ...
The under painting shows through the over layer of luster.
The roses on the
magenta and purple bowl were painted in china paints and kiln
fired...
I LOVE this stuff!!!

"What
these photos represent are five life-size recreations of
stained glass windows, three of which represent scenes from
the Nativity and two which represent angels. The three
nativity windows are 8 feet by 4 feet; the angel windows are
roughly 6 by 3. All windows are back-lit with self-contained
fluorescent lights behind panels of painted plexiglass and a
translucent light diffuser. In creating these windows, I
used lacquer glass paints (every color offered), gallons of
liquid lead, hundreds of the plastic eye droppers, about 80
of those little glass bottles and a bunch of lacquer
thinner."

"here is a table top I made. I used a mixture of the lacquer
paints and the crackle paints along with your leading. I
don't know if you can tell but it's a double paned piece of
glass and I injected water in between. it's a super cool
effect in person!"

"The work uses your
laquer-based
paint and liquid leading. Each piece is airbrushed on 32in
diameter (16in wide) 1/4in plain plate glass. The glass is
inserted into the doors of a chest of drawers."

This is a
sculptural piece entitled, "self-portrait:fridge" which is a
1953 GE fridge upholstered entirely in tempered glass which
was stained with Jurgen stains, then smashed and used to cover
the entire fridge. I then used floor grout to fill in between
the pieces and flocked the entire inside with spray velvet
